Mr. Joseph "Joe" Hoffman

It is with deep sadness that Janice Davis announces the passing of her husband, Joseph “Joe” Hoffman, 69. He entered into rest peacefully on Thursday, May 18, 2023 surrounded by family. A memorial service to honor the life of Joe will be held at 11 o’clock on Monday, May 22, 2023 in the Chapel of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Winburn officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the chapel. Joe was born and raised in Hartsville, SC. He was the son of the late Margaret Hoffman King. Joe served seventeen years with Coker’s Pedigreed Seed Company and later was grounds supervisor five years for Chesterfield County School District. He served and retired as grounds supervisor for The City of Hartsville, and also opened Joe’s Pizza Pub. Shortly after, Joe began working for Jasper’s Produce and later opened his own produce market. Joe’s greatest pride was in his dignity of farming and working in the garden. He spent many days and nights throughout his life working in agriculture. He taught many, that sometimes, the best way to care and support the people in your life is to simply feed them. He received much pleasure in cooking for the community, and for friends and family. Joe helped many people in time of need because he had a giving heart and a special love for children. Surviving are his wife, Janice Davis; stepdaughter, Kelli Davis Odom (Buddy); honorary daughter, Ashley Morris (Brandon); brother, “Buckwheat” Charles King; grandson, Tripp Metts; special aunt, Katherine Roscoe; nephews, “Worm” James Hoffman, “Heavy” Robert Hoffman (Pattie), Brad and Chad King; a very special fur baby, “Sparky.” In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Hoffman Arruda; granddaughter, Kendall Groubert; and grandparents Mattie and Malone Hoffman. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Agape Hospice for their compassion and care during the last few weeks for Joe. A very special thanks to Pat King for extending Joe’s life for twenty-two years by donating a kidney. The family is ever-so-grateful, as was Joe! If you knew Joe, you know he had a strong love for animals. The family asks in lieu of flowers that memorials may be made in memory of Joe to the Darlington County Humane Society. The Directors of Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home and Crematory are honored to care for the family.
